While working with excel formats there is a common mistake found in almost all the cases in Date Formats. There are many Data formats used by the people. Some of them are listed below.

  1. dd/MM/yy – 31/03/09
  2. dd-MM-yy – 31-03-09
  3. dd/MM/yyyy – 31/03/2009
  4. dd-MM-yyyy – 31-03-2009
  5. MM/dd/yyyy – 03/31/2009
  6. MM-dd-yyyy – 03-31-2009
  7. dd-MMM-yyyy – 31-Mar-2009
  8. mmm dd-yyyyy – Mar 31-2009
  9. yyyyMMdd - 20090331

In excel the dates format is directly linked to the system Date Format. If some external Cell Format is not given, it directly picks the Systems Short Date format. And here the real problem begins. In TSync is shows a different date as that of the Excel file. For the formats from 1 to 6, the date formats works in a mysterious manner. Actually the system is incapable of making the difference in Day and Month. So it may happen if the Day is less than 13 it may be read as a Month and Month may be read as Day. For example for a date like 01/04/2009 the system may read it as 1st Day of April 2009 or 4th Day of January 2009, depending upon the System Short Date format.

So the developers of TSync always suggests to use the Numeric format (No 9) or Descriptive Format (Format No 7 & 8) while working with TSync. In format 7 & 8, it makes a clear difference between Day and Month while the Format No 9 is the Tally’s internal Date format. So it always recommended for using the Format No. 9.
